After a two-year hiatus, one of the most anticipated events of Centro Escolar University made its comeback on Saturday, March 4, at CEU Manila.
With the theme “One Goal, One Dream, One Team”, the opening ceremony for this year’s sportsfest kicked off with a massive march of all schools in Mendiola, followed by the gathering of Escolarians at the CEU North Quadrangle.
The ceremony continued with an opening remarks from Dr. Mary Iodine Lacanienta, dean of the School of Dentistry, the assigned school as the overall chair of the said event.
In her remarks, Dr. Lacanienta expressed her excitement for the players’ success in their respective sports as well as her desire for them to share and treasure the experiences from the university-wide event.
The honoree, Dr. Misagh Bahadoran, an alumni and former member of the Philippine AZKAL, was also present at the event and expressed his gratitude for CEU, and for all he learned during his time at his alma mater.
When he was still a student, Bahadoran once created a petition to convert a basketball court into a futsal field, which later on brought attention to futsal among Escolarians.
Continuing the event, CEU President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina, led the declaration of the opening of this year’s sportsfest.
The announcement of the School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music, and Social Work (SELAMS) as the overall head for next year’s sportsfest took place during the ceremonial torch lighting.
Other highlights of the opening ceremony were the dance competition, and Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest 2023, where participants represented their respective schools.
