Escolarians from the Communication and Media program gathered at the Librada Avelino Hall Seminar Room 2 & 3 for the annual general assembly and acquaintance party, October 28.
With the theme “Back to the Retro Future: The Past’s Vision of the Future”, the program was spearheaded by the Communication and Media Society (COMMSOC).
In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Ricky Rosales, COMMSOC Adviser and Program Head of Communication and Media, delivered a warm and encouraging message to the attendees, sharing his hope for students to continue the excellence of the past into the future.
Afterward, Catherine Bautista, former COMMSOC president, passed on the key of responsibility to the incoming officers, symbolizing the transition of leadership and the trust placed in them to carry on the organization’s mission and vision.
Meanwhile, COMMSOC Secretary Savannah Maria Lantay presented the total number of members and conducted a reading of the newly updated constitution and by-laws.
This was followed by an icebreaker activity called the whisper challenge, played by pairs, one alumni, and one active student.
After the fun and energizing activity, Jeron Ellana, COMMSOC Year 13 president, presented the council’s action plan for the SY ’23-’24.
In his speech, he asked for the participation and support of the COMMunity in COMMSOC’s future events.
“They say 13 is a bad number. But this year, let’s turn the bad luck into good luck,” Ellana said.
Elisha Chloe Bautista and Marielle Joanna Sincuya, COMMSOC treasurer and auditor, also reported on the organization’s financial statement and budget allocation.
Meanwhile, Kyle Crispino, CEU-Manila University Student Council (USC) Secretary, delivered his pledge of support to COMMSOC.
This segment was followed by an intermission performance from Adrienne Martinez, the Executive Producer of Balitang Centro.
Afterward, COMMSOC Vice President Christ Jereco Nuguid, gave an orientation on the proper procedures related to Communication & Media Lab and Equipment, as well as the proper way of filling out the request forms needed.
Following this, Communication and Media Alumni presented their “Looking Back to the Future” messages to the students.
John Bolivar (President, Year 11), Vanessa Canlas (Vice President, Year 11), Allyssa Nievera (President, Year 8, and Mitzi Ann Badua (President, Year 5), shared their experiences and learnings, offering their support for the current COMMSOC officers.
“Sana kahit mahirapan, bumalik tayo sa core kung bakit natin pinili mag Comm,” Canlas said.
Meanwhile, the sub-organizations of Communication and Media gave their pledges of support from the CEU News and Current Affairs, Centro Creatives, and Centro Dalumat, underscoring the solidarity within the COMMunity.
The event concluded with closing remarks and acknowledgments from COMMSOC officers, followed by a snack break and the start of the acquaintance party. The first game was “Pakandong po Kuya,” followed by a costume catwalk with three finalists and two winners.
The event ended with a photo opportunity with the attendees, as well as the participating speakers.
